Meeting Agenda01

Aug 31st 2009 Monday 1:30pm The three of us had our first meeting today, where we brainstormed and mind-mapped a few possible themes for The Yearbook.

Meeting objectives:
brainstorm
timeline
come up with a theme
possible names
language if bilingual

It's time to spread the word on FB.

Contribution

Sunday Aug 30th 2009 at noon
The three of us along with Reem Al-Hajri, prepared 6 sheets of paper with 6 Sharpies for the seniors contribution part.
The idea is to get the student's feedback and ideas heard and considered since it's all about class 2010. They should have a say in what their yearbook is going to end up looking like.
So, Reem wrote: BRAINTSTORM FOR THE YEARBOOK2010. MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION. (ONLY SENIORS)

The papers as you can see, were posted either in or by the seniors studios, Fashion's, Interior's and Graphic's.

However, nobody wrote a thing on it, and it's been up there for the second day now. How unfortunate!

*Our statement, Yearbook Project was a small idea that we wanted to do, from day one we came to VCU Qatar, since we are going to graduate next semester inshallah, we want to leave a legacy to VCU Qatar. It’s for Class 2010 “Fashion, Graphic, and interior departments”. This yearbook will include around 50 student and people who helped us to be what we are now “our beloved professors”. It will include also student’s work and different events. Also, It will show diversity, uniqueness in each student, different cultures, traditions, languages, talents, characters, energies and styles.

We wanted to share with you our yearbook process

define:Independent study

What's an independent study?
Who, How, Where, When, and Why?

[ Independent Study is a form of education offered by many high schools, colleges, and other educational institutions around the world. It is sometimes referred to as directed study. It is most usually when a student and a professor or teacher agree upon a topic for the student to further research outside of school with loose guidance from the instructor for an agreed upon amount of credits.] Source

[A self-directed learning strategy where the teacher acts as guide or facilitator and the student plays a more active role in designing and managing his or her own learning.]

[Independent Study courses are those in which the course content, learning activities, and evaluative criteria are developed primarily by the student. The student should be capable of bearing responsibility for the entire conduct of the study. Independent study is not on par with a traditional class or “directed study”; independent study requires discipline and creativity of the highest order and is conducted by a student independently. The sponsor monitors, assists as possible, evaluates achievement of objectives, and assigns a final grade when objectives are met.

Procedure: The student initiates an Instructor Approval Form and prepares a final contract, which both parties sign. To obtain authorization to enroll for independent study, the sponsor or the student completes an Instructor Approval Form and submits it along with the original of the contract approval to the appropriate Dean.

Independent studies may be initiated at any time but are due to be completed administratively by the end of the semester in which initiated (fall, spring, summer). It is not uncommon for independent studies to enter into an "Incomplete" status when a full semester is not available for completion of the study.

Limitation on Independent Study courses: No more than 12 credits earned in Independent Study may be applied to an undergraduate baccalaureate degree, no more than 6 credits to an associate degree, and no more than 3 credits to an undergraduate certificate. Independent Studies will not duplicate catalog courses.] Source
